BitZipper - Award Winning Data Compression Utility for Windows
Review by on
Nowadays, file archiving is widely used by a lot of computer users. Almost everyone needs to archive files and folders, for storing multiple files easier or for quickly sending data using email or uploading to a FTP server. No matter what the reason is, file archiving is and will be a great way of managing multiple files a long time from now.

The ZIP format is the most popular and, at the same time, the oldest format of all. Unfortunately, the compression ratio supported by it is not one of the best. Having a software that can handle multiple archive types would be a very good idea. That's because some file types need a certain type of archive for an optimal compression. A software that can handle a large number of archive types and also includes many options is BitZipper.

The program can be installed on almost any version of the Windows operating system, ranging from XP to Windows 7. It needs only a few clicks to be installed and gets this process done in the shortest time possible. The hard disk space occupied is around 10 MB, which is less than other similar programs.

Regarding the interface of BitZipper, it resembles the one of other archiving tools, but includes much more features. When running the program for the first time, it will ask the user if he wants to associate all the archive types with BitZipper. Doing so will enable opening an archive just by double-clicking on it.

Creating a new archive only requires clicking on the New button, entering a name for it and then adding the desired files and folders. BitZipper doesn't feature compression settings, but has several compression profiles to choose from. For helping inexperienced users in creating and managing archives, the program offers a simple step by step wizard. Using this wizard, anyone can create or extract files and folders from archives in the shortest time possible.

Besides creating and extracting archives, BitZipper also has some extra features, like the possibility to split archives, making them fit on various media types, like CDs. There is a also a batch tool for extracting the contents from more archives at once, thus saving a lot of time and effort.

Pros:
It supports a wide range of archive formats. Besides that, it includes various compression presets to choose from. Furthermore, it features a simple step by step wizard for creating and extracting files and folders from archives.

Cons:
The program seems too simple to be used by an advanced user. Besides that, there aren't any compression settings.

BitZipper is a great alternative to any archiving software on the market.
